Psychosocial factors are the main cause of occupational illnesses. Some 20% of employees struggle with burnout. My practice is full of clients who feel empty, burnt out, or just like a number. They have reached their psychological and physical limits. Management gurus overestimate our rational brain. Their solutions are inadequate. Our million-year-old psychological DNA seeks safety, belonging, esteem, autonomy, self-expression, and learning to deal with boundaries. This requires an evolutionary approach to leadership, people, teams, mergers, recruitment, and change management. Sufficient scientific evidence shows that management theories do not penetrate below the surface portion of our brain.
Dealing with this is what drives Leon every day. In his talks, workshops, work, and ‘10 million years of leadership’ book, he substantiates this with many examples and practical tips, based on his specific academic background and experiences as a business owner, director, manager, consultant, supervisor, husband, and father. He goes even further in his new book ‘De Formule 1 maatschappij – meer, beter, sneller’ (The Formula 1 Society – More, Better, Faster).
